Swim for the Sanctuary

Sat 7 November 2026 White River House Beach, Ocho Rios

Make a splash for marine conservation at Swim for the Sanctuary in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

Dive into a meaningful Jamaican experience at Swim for the Sanctuary, an annual open-water swimming event organised by the Jamaica Inn Foundation and the White River Fish Sanctuary.

Bringing together recreational swimmers, competitive athletes, families and ocean enthusiasts, this special event combines the excitement of open-water swimming with an important mission: protecting and restoring Jamaica’s precious marine ecosystems.

What to Expect

Swim for the Sanctuary welcomes participants of varying ages and swimming abilities, with several distances and activities to choose from.

Open-Water Swimming Challenges

Swimmers can take part in 500m, 1km, 3km and 5km races, with categories catering to different age groups and experience levels.

Team Relay & Paddleboarding

The event also includes a 4 × 100m swimming relay and a 500m paddleboard competition, offering additional ways to participate.

A Celebration of Marine Conservation

Beyond the competition, Swim for the Sanctuary raises awareness and vital funds for the ongoing protection of the White River Fish Sanctuary, supporting coral restoration, marine conservation, local fishermen and community education.

Supporting the White River Fish Sanctuary

Established in 2017, the White River Fish Sanctuary protects approximately 150 acres of marine habitat along Jamaica’s North Coast.

Working closely with local fishermen and community partners, the sanctuary focuses on restoring fish populations, rehabilitating coral reefs and protecting the marine environment for future generations.

Funds raised through Swim for the Sanctuary help support conservation activities, including marine wardens, coral gardening, equipment and ongoing community initiatives.

It’s an opportunity to enjoy Jamaica’s beautiful coastal waters while contributing to an important local conservation effort.

Registration & Participation

Swim for the Sanctuary welcomes both Jamaican residents and international participants, with registration available for individual swimming distances, team relays and other scheduled activities.

Age requirements and entry fees vary by event category.
