Experience thrilling J/22 yacht racing, international competition and Caribbean sailing hospitality.
The Jammin’ J/22 Jamaica Regatta is a celebrated international sailing competition that brings together experienced sailors, enthusiastic crews and sailing clubs from around the world for several days of exciting racing in Montego Bay.
Hosted by the Montego Bay Yacht Club, this longstanding annual regatta combines competitive one-design yacht racing with the warmth, hospitality and relaxed atmosphere of Jamaica’s Caribbean coastline.
Established in 1989, Jammin’ J/22 has become a favourite among visiting sailors, offering an exciting combination of challenging racing conditions, international camaraderie and memorable social experiences.
Exciting One-Design Yacht Racing
The Jammin’ J/22 Regatta features competitive racing aboard J/22 keelboats, a popular class of performance sailing yachts.
Because competitors race boats of the same design, success depends heavily on sailing skills, teamwork, race tactics and the ability to respond to changing wind conditions.
The result is closely contested racing, with boats frequently competing only metres apart.
Spectacular Caribbean Sailing Conditions
Montego Bay provides a beautiful setting for the competition, with warm Caribbean waters, steady trade winds and a backdrop of tropical mountains.
Participating crews navigate exciting racecourses while enjoying Jamaica’s spectacular coastal scenery.
International Competition & Jamaican Hospitality
Jammin’ J/22 welcomes sailors from Jamaica and overseas, creating a friendly atmosphere of international competition.
Past regattas have attracted teams from the United States, Canada, the Cayman Islands and other sailing communities.
One of the event’s distinctive traditions is the opportunity for visiting crews to compete using locally supplied J/22 boats, subject to availability and organiser arrangements.
This makes the regatta particularly appealing to international sailors who wish to experience competitive Caribbean racing without transporting their own yacht.
A Tradition of Friendship & Fun
Jammin’ J/22 is renowned for its welcoming social atmosphere and emphasis on enjoyment both on and off the water.
Beyond the racing, the event traditionally includes opportunities for sailors to socialise, celebrate and enjoy Jamaica’s hospitality.
Past editions have featured welcoming gatherings, themed parties and memorable social occasions.
A Celebration of Jamaica’s Sailing Community
For more than three decades, Jammin’ J/22 has helped strengthen connections between Jamaica’s sailing community and visiting international competitors.
The regatta celebrates sporting excellence, friendship and the shared enjoyment of competitive sailing in a beautiful Caribbean setting.
The Jammin’ J/22 Jamaica Regatta is traditionally held around the beginning of December, with several days of sailing competition and associated social activities.
Participation arrangements, boat availability, race schedules and visitor information are announced by the organisers for each edition.
