Swim, cycle and run through Treasure Beach's scenic countryside at Jakes' iconic off-road triathlon.
The Jakes Off-Road Triathlon is one of Jamaica’s most distinctive sporting events, bringing athletes and adventure enthusiasts from around the world to the beautiful coastal community of Treasure Beach, St. Elizabeth.
Celebrated as the world’s longest-running off-road triathlon, this annual competition combines ocean swimming, mountain biking and trail running through the rugged countryside of Jamaica’s South Coast.
First staged in 1996, Jakes has earned international recognition for its challenging course, spectacular scenery and welcoming community atmosphere. It offers an unforgettable experience for seasoned competitors, first-time triathletes, families and spectators alike.
An Ocean Swim in Great Bay
The adventure begins with a 300-metre ocean swim in the sheltered waters of Great Bay.
Surrounded by Treasure Beach’s scenic coastline, this opening stage provides an exhilarating start to the competition.
An Off-Road Mountain Bike Adventure
The 25-kilometre cycling course takes competitors through rural roads, rocky trails and picturesque farmland surrounding Treasure Beach.
Challenging climbs and rugged terrain make this an exciting test of endurance, with beautiful countryside views along the way.
A Scenic Trail Run
The final stage is a 7-kilometre trail run through the distinctive landscape of Jamaica’s South Coast.
Competitors navigate country lanes, farmland and coastal trails before reaching the finish line to enthusiastic cheers from supporters.
Likkle Jakes – A Race for Young Athletes
The celebrations also have a special place for younger competitors through Likkle Jakes, a children’s triathlon featuring shorter swimming, cycling and running distances.
Held alongside the main event in past editions, Likkle Jakes encourages young athletes to participate in a fun, supportive environment while developing confidence and sporting skills.
Participation ages, distances and registration requirements are determined by the organisers for each edition.
A Celebration of Community & Adventure
Jakes is about much more than competition.
The event brings together local and international athletes, with individual and relay-team participation providing different ways to enjoy the challenge.
Spectators can cheer on competitors while experiencing Treasure Beach’s friendly atmosphere, local food and vibrant community spirit.
Supporting the Treasure Beach Community
Net proceeds from the triathlon benefit BREDS, the Treasure Beach Foundation, supporting initiatives in education, sports, community development and environmental conservation.
Participating in Jakes offers an opportunity to enjoy an exceptional sporting experience while contributing to the surrounding community.
Jakes Off-Road Triathlon welcomes individual competitors and relay teams, with participation requirements and registration arrangements announced for each edition.
The event has also featured the Likkle Jakes children’s race. Families interested in registering younger athletes should confirm the current age categories, race distances and any parental-consent requirements directly with the organisers.
